This unique software provides an object-oriented interface to the Outlook Express message store.
The most widely-installed email client in the world, Outlook Express uses a proprietary file format for storing messages, the .DBX file. The specification for this format has never been published by Microsoft, and providing programmatic access to DBX file contents has historically been virtually impossible.
OEReader changes all that - by using a standard COM-based approach, developers writing in Visual Basic, VBScript, Javascript, C++ or any other COM-compatible language have an easy-to-use object-based interface to Outlook Express messages.
Accessing the message store either via Outlook Express' own folder hierarchy (which is fully exposed by OEReader), or by accessing DBX files on the local, or a remote, computer, OEReader provides access to message stores across a network, or archived to read-only media - things which Outlook Express itself cannot achieve.
By opening the message files for read-only access, you can be assured that your message data is safe and secure at all times. OEReader does not provide facilities for modifying, creating, sending or moving messages.
The download includes not only the component (a fully functional DLL, limited in the evaluation version to accessing the first ten messages in any folder), but also a comprehensive HTML-based helpfile, plus functionally-rich examples written in Visual Basic 6, VBScript and JScript - so you can incorporate OEReader into your own applications quickly and easily.
The only prerequisite for running OEReader is that you have the VB6 runtime file, MSVBVM60.DLL, installed on the machine where OEReader will run. OEReader can access all DBX files created by any version of Outlook Express from v4 onwards, running on any Microsoft Windows platform. Outlook Express does not need to be installed for OEReader to access DBX files.
Please note that although OEReader exposes all the properties of each message, it does NOT attempt to decode or parse individual messages - the developer must still parse out MIME headers, decode attachments and so on.
To use the "unlocked" version of OEReader, you must purchase a license. A license permits you to use OEReader on a given number of machines, including redistribution of the runtimes as part of your application if you wish.

MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) is the most commonly used method for encapsulating rich data in emails sent over the internet, yet the format can be complex to decode, and make programmatic handling of received emails difficult and error prone. MIMEReader changes all that by providing high-performance, easy-to-use programmatic access via a standard ActiveX DLL callable from other applications, scripts or even web pages.
MIMEReader is an ActiveX component that you can call from your VB application, web page, Windows Scripting Host or any other application that supports ActiveX. MIMEReader is strictly read-only; you cannot update any part of a MIME-format message using it; this also ensures that there is no way for MIMEReader to have any adverse effects on your mail system. You can, however, update your file system directly from MIMEReader, using the Save method to decode and save attachments.
The shareware version of MIMEReader is freely available on the Internet and may be redistributed, provided it is distributed purely in the form of the SETUP.EXE program published by Small Office Solutions. The shareware version of the MIMEReader.DLL may not be incorporated into commercial software for redistribution or resale under any circumstances. It may be used for evaluation, software development, and internal applications only.The shareware version displays a pop-up message box when a new message is loaded into the MIMEMessage object. To suppress this pop-up, you must purchase a license for the redistributable version, even if you do not intend to redistribute the DLL within any application.
A license to use and/or redistribute the MIMEReader.DLL may be purchased from Small Office Solutions Ltd. Pricing is dependent on the number of copies to be distributed, as follows:

Customers purchasing a lower-volume license may upgrade at any time on payment of the balance to the higher volume license. Refunds are not available where volumes do not reach expected levels.
On purchasing a redistribution license, you will be sent (by email) an 'unlocked' version of the DLL that you may use in your redistributable applications. The unlocked DLL's ClassID and other details are identical in all respects to the shareware version, but with no "nag" pop-up message.
