The Professional Contractors' Group is the UK's leading representative body for freelance contractors in all professions. Within the membership of around 18,500,

SOS has contacts we can call upon for expert advice in areas that are not our specialism, and we can often recommend freelancers from within the group if we are unable to meet a client's needs ourselves.

The Better Payment Practice Group exists to promote good commercial payment practice. Supporting and advising businesses on appropriate payment terms, and on debt management and recovery, members of the group have to abide by the group's guidelines on supplier payment policies and practice.

ISO9001:2000 is the internationally-recognised standard for quality management systems. Typically only accessible to larger corporations, through the PCG's scheme we are able to access the same rigorous quality systems used by blue-chip companies. We achieved certification in December 2007.

Small Office Solutions Ltd was formed over 17 years ago, in 1995, to provide quality, independent software development, training and consultancy services to small businesses in Hertfordshire. Since then the business has expanded and we now have satisfied customers across the globe. Initially also providing ad-hoc troubleshooting and support on a range of platforms, we've subsequently specialised in desktop- and web-based software development for the Windows platform.

Our core skills are based around the Microsoft development tools, including .Net, Office, SQL Server and IIS.

Based in Watford, Hertfordshire, UK, our principal consultant Derek Pattenson has over 33 years' commercial IT experience. Working for major domestic and international blue-chip companies, the skills and disciplines of working as part of a professional team remain firmly rooted at the heart of Derek's development approach. His roles have included development, maintenance, systems analysis, database administration, pre- and post-sales support, help-desk management, consultancy and training, providing an ideal all-round foundation for his current responsibilities at Small Office Solutions Ltd.
