Remote Employment Awards - Freelance Consultant Overall Winner
Our consultant, Derek Pattenson, is honoured to have won the Remote Employment awards (2009) in the category of Freelance Consultant. With hundreds of entrants for the awards, the competition was fierce and Derek's surprised and delighted to have won.

The remote employment awards recognise employers, staff and freelancers working remotely, either from their homes or some other remote-from-office location. We believe Derek was selected to win since not only does he work from his home office, but he setup Small Office Solutions Ltd in 1995 specifically to serve the small office / home office sector, supporting remote and home workers away from their companies' IT departments. Since then, of course, the business has developed greatly and we now support not only home workers but many larger, office-based organisations too; but in almost every case, we provide our services remotely, often taking advantage of that to provide a quality and level of service that just could not be achieved if we had to travel to the clients' own sites. Further, we sometimes outsource well-defined packets of work to other remote workers, sharing the benefits of this way of working.
